The Intermational IDM Coordination Group has been established to provide a focus for the coordinated development of information delivery management and support components worldwide. The vision, mission and goals of the Group are:

VISION

The vision of the International IDM Coordination Group is of a construction industry that will be able to select standard information delivery specifications from a public data source, adapt them for their needs and use them to support their information exchange requirements on projects.

MISSION

The mission of the International IDM Coordination Group is to:

1. support the development, coordination and application of methods and specifications that enable information exchange to be targeted for use within specific business processes
2. develop, and make available through buildingSMART, a source of coordinated information exchange requirements together with supporting IDM components and typical process maps within which the use of exchange requirements is described.
3. act as a user support group within buildingSMART International
4. report to the appropriate buildingSMART management committee

GOALS

The goals of the International IDM Coordination Group are to:

• support the development of standard process maps, exchange requirements, concepts/functional parts, business rules, general user guidelines and other technical documents that can be used and adapted as needed;
• provide support and assistance to projects and groups adapting international standard IDM developments for regional, national, local or project standard use
• respond to issues arising from use of the IDM methodology;
• provide periodic maintenance of the IDM methodology to make such changes and additions that may be required from time to time;
• develop or support the development of IDM training materials;
• develop and operate IDM web sites and databases (repositories);
• coordinate requests and proposals for new IDM developments including, as appropriate, the provision of methods and tools to assist the making of requests and proposals;
• coordinate the provision of information about IDM developments including advice and assistance in ensuring its presentation in an appropriate form;
• specify and develop, or support the development of software tools for IDM preparation and use;
• support the development of validation services for information exchange in business processes;
• represent the IDM approach in international standards and other bodies.
