Arrangements have been made for the first Masterclass presentation in the United States. This will be a 1 day class presented to students of the University of Illinois and staff members of the Engineer Research and Development Centre at Champaign, Illinois. The event will take place on 8th June immediately following the ISO TC59/SC14 meeting in Ottawa. |

The ISO TC59/SC14 meeting will take place in Ottawa. This is the ISO standard dealing with service life planning. A new draft of the ISO15686-4 proposal will be presented. This is the first proposed ISO standard that uses IDM methodology to specify data requirements. |
| 14-15/05/2009 |
The ISO TC59/SC13 meeting will take place in conjunction with the buildingSMART International meetings in Paris. The meeting will discuss the IDM standard and it is expected that a proposal for a new companion standard on transaction processing in construction will be submitted. Immediately after the ISO meeting in Paris, IDM will also be presented to a meeting of CEN (Centre Europeen de Normalisation). |

The ballot for the Draft International Standard ISO/DIS 29481-1 is now set to close on May 23rd. We would like to encourage all of the national standards bodies participating in the ISO TC59/SC13 group responsible for the Standard to make a positive vote for this standard. This then provides a methodology that can be used to create other data standards of which many are expected at international, national and even local level. Participating countries and standards bodies include Austria (ON),
Belgium (NBN), Canada (SCC), China (SAC), Denmark (DS), Finland (SFS), Germany (DIN), Italy (UNI), Japan (JISC), Korea, Republic of (KATS), Malaysia (DSM), Netherlands (NEN), Norway (NS), Portugal (IPQ), Romania (ASRO), Spain (AENOR) , Sweden (SIS), Turkey (TSE), United Kingdom (BSI). |

The joint buildingSMART alliance / Open Geospatial Consortium’s (OGC) AECOO Testbed Interoperability Initiative is an international, hands-on, and collaborative rapid
prototyping program designed to develop and deliver working commercial
software that can frame open standards developments. The current phase of the Testbed is focused on using Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) in two primary areas: quantity take-off (QTO) and energy analysis. The QTO thread has now developed a process map and set of exchange requirements that set out the key points where exchanges of information occur, identifies the data that are encapsulated in those exchanges, specifies how an application should share data in a transaction, and what the response should entail. Click here for further information about the IDM developments for QTO.

Taking place in Oslo over 3 days in January, the 'buildingSMART Masterseminar:09' provided students working on building SMART-related bachelor, master and PhD projects with an opportunity to see the work of companies active in buildingSMART. The seminar described principles of buildingSMART specifications and standards on day 1 before looking at software implementations on day 2 and results of using buildingSMART on projects on day 3. The seminar was organized and led by Eilif Hjelseth of the Norwegian University of Life Sciences - Department of Mathematical Sciences and Technology.
